Abstract

The author assesses the contribution made by forestry to the Irish economy in recent years. The performance of forestry-based industrial development is compared with that of other industries, and predictions are made regarding their future direction. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing forestry-based industries are examined and recommendations regarding short-term and long-term actions are made.
