Abstract

Until the introduction of realistic grant schemes in the early 1980s, both the level of interest and the level of development in private forestry was minimal. In this paper I want to look at - The achievements of the 1980s - Identify the main reasons for the rapid expansion in private plating. - Examine the present challenges to continued development and how they might be countered. - Chart the course for private forestry for the 1990s.
