When the problem of controlling insect pests in forests is discussed, two approaches are possible: one may discuss the present situation in the forests of a given country in the light of what is known about their insects; or one may attempt to produce a plan which can be modified to deal with the pests of any country_ This article deals with the second possibility, and is not therefore directly concerned with the present practice in Ireland...
